New Stuff

Postby rjh » Tue Aug 25, 2009 2:42 pm

Hey Guys,

Well, I warned you that I had new stuff to look at ... =>

Re-designed my site (web sites are always a work in progress) ... lots of new stuff and re-purposed old content as well.

Been real busy ... done a bunch of anim tests and completed a few shorts. On top of what I have posted, I have 3 more shorts (done with Jpatch) that I have finished rendering all the footage for, and now need to add dialog, sound effects, edit, etc ... I will let you guys know when those are finished too.

Here are some links to a few of the Jpatch specific animations. I have provided links to both Sorenson3 and MPG-4 Quicktimes. Am I being too redundent ? Please let me know if you guys have any issues with these.

I also have some new 2d animations I have made with Anime Studio (previously Moho). Take a looksee around the site and let me know what you guys think ... be as brutal (or nice) as required ... =>

Nice :-)
I really like your stylized, skinny figures with that plumes(?) on their heads.
I don't know what else to say - the animations are kind of simplistic, but artistically very unique. I like them, although there's not much of a story, so I'm not sure what they are about.

You're one of the few persons who actually use JPatch (0.4?), and I'm eager to see what you can come up with once the new version is out.

Did you use a toon-shader in the last example? I'm surprised how well it works - the patches in version 0.4 used to have some creases in them, and I know from my own toon-shader experiments that these kind of shaders are very sensitive to any discontinuities in the surface derivatives.

Hey Sascha,

Thank you Sascha !

Usually, there really isnt a story, just interesting (to me at least) movements and / or interactions that I am attempting to capture. Some are also meant to invoke thought in the viewer ... something like "What was that I just watched?" , or "What did he mean by that?"

Did you use a toon-shader in the last example?

Yes I did. Infact, I am using that toon shader quite a bit intermixed with raytraced shadows and other non-toon shaded environments. I pulled it (tebSimpleCartoon.sl ... compiled it with BMRT) from the Affine toolkit - www.affine.org - an excellent Renderman resource. The shader itself is very simple, and allows tweaking of the toon line width and specular highlight. It isn't easy to find on the site, so here's the link to the page describing the shader:

http://www.affine.org/tiffedge.html

Thanks again for taking a look. The other 3 animations that I mentioned actually have a story to them (plot lines that go for a few minutes each). I should have them finished soon, but am taking my time to get them the way I want them.
