I've just deleted 23 (!) bot users that have been created two days ago

I've only been removing an average of 2 or 3 when I log on.

I might have a look at the phpBB code some time to see how hard it would be to code up a challange of some sort ("Enter a three letters ending with "Z"). But I've finally gotten back into the flow of coding Inyo again, and I don't want to get distracted again... :P

I've upgraded to the latest version of phpBB - and of course all attachements are gone again :x
So I decided to not install that attachement_mod anymore, I'll look for another means to upload images.

What I've found was a simple mod that changes the visual confirmation "turing test" on the registration page. It looks a lot better now:

Let's hope that this will defeat the spammers for some time.

That's too bad... It was a lot easier than having to host the information on my site. :?

It looks good! I was just digging through the phpBB code to figure out how it works, but I'll stop now. :D

It works a bit too good - I really have problems reading some of the images. But you've got three tries :-)
I think the really clever tools convert the font's glyphs to splines and transform the CVs in some way, but I doubt that php can do this (at least with standard libraries).

That was my thought as well - the font is rather funky, and took a bit of effort to read. But that's the point, isn't it? If all else fails, someone can email you if the can't figure it out.

I've noticed a number of spam posts in the last day or so. They seem to be posting as guest. So it seems someone's found a way past the new filter. :?

I just checked - they were logged in!
If the bots crack that turing test (the image with the hard-to-read letters) the last option would be to use manual registration (where an admin has to enable each new user-account).

For the wxBasic site, everyone has to be approved by me, because the mail feature on SourceForge is broken. No more spam, but lots and lots of spambots signing up to the list. :?

I just removed the user Philana1963, and their post as well - they're a bot.
