Feature suggestion (Animator)

I was going over an idea for the next IRTC animation round, and being able to set keyframes for materials (basically to quickly switch from one to another) would help out a lot.

I don't know if key framing is the right way to achieve this, but it's the only way I can think of to switch mats.

The next version will probably support animatable materials. You'll be able to control material attributes (like the color, or - in case of RenderMan - any variable that's passed to the shader) via curves.
I haven't thought about switching material though. Do you think this will be necessary?

Right now the povray-export creates a varaible called jpatchFrame, which is - guess what - the frame number :-)
You can access it from material declarations (that's how I loaded the different frames for the screen-saver animation on the clerk's monitor in "The Impostor").
