I've changed the code so that the user can now subdivide only parts of the model for hierarchical modeling. Here's a screenshot of the Cartoon-Rabbit, with the tip of the thumb subdivided to level 6. The entire mesh at this level would have more than 10 million faces (quite impossible to handle in realtime), but this method allows to modify details up to level 6 on selected parts of the geometry while keeping the UI responsive.

It's taken with a wide-angle lens, thus the huge thumb.
Stitching is not done correctly right now (or not at all, to be honest), so there are gaps visible on the boundary between two subdiv-levels. Of course these gaps will not visible in the final rendering.

I seriously doubt that you'll ever need level 6, it's just an arbitrary limit. I can set it to something less insane (like 4), or remove the limit at all.
